accurate, anachronism, book, character, eBook, fantasy, historical, love, Norse, origin, research, shit, swear, Valkyrie, words, writer
No, it’s not the Oxford English Dictionary, although the initials are an interesting coincidence. What I found was the Online Etymology Dictionary, a site that goes into extensive detail about the origins of words and phrases.
For fun have a look at the page I stumbled upon;
I found this site whilst researching the origins of the word ‘shit.’ If I tell you this, then the page above will make more sense.
The reason I was searching? I needed to have a tenth-century mythological character (old Norse) swear correctly, without the danger of anachronism.
I DID find what I was looking for, but I think I have stumbled upon a very interesting site…interesting if you are writing historical fantasy or fiction.
Or if you just love words – which many writers do. :D
This site now joins my bookmarked sites listed under ‘Writer Resources.’

A Construct of Angels, Amazon, ambulance, Anakim, angel, armageddon, begat, dark, demon, doom, emergency, EMT, equinoxe, free, kdp, Kindle, love, Nephilim, paramedic, romance, supernatural, york
‘A Construct of Angels’ has now been live at Amazon for five weeks now…the time has come to use two of the five ‘freebie days’ on Amazon KDP to list ‘Construct’ as a free download.
This will (if all goes to plan) apply to Saturday and Sunday (1st and 2nd December), hopefully from 0001 Pacific Time Saturday to 2359 Pacific on Sunday…give or take.
If you’ve already downloaded a copy, please tell your Kindle (or Kindle-for-PC enabled – a free download from Amazon) friends that ‘Construct’ will be available for this period.
Or if you’ve been the (lucky?) recipient of one of my advance copies, please download a free copy so that you will be able to (if you so desire) leave a line of feedback when you are able.
The rumour is that Amazon is busy removing feedback from peeps that haven’t procured a copy from their site.
I emphasise that this is just gossip at the moment and I haven’t seen any first-hand evidence of it.
As this is the first time I have tried the Amazon KDP free download day feature, I will feed my experiences back to you in my next post.
Please take advantage of this offer if the genre appeals to you and if you are able to, please be kind and leave some feedback.
Feedback is a very valuable commodity to debuting authors and helps to boost credibility, build buyers’ confidence and hopefully encourage future sales!

angel, Construct, dark, Light, love, malevolent, Sentence, Six, soul, Sunday, warmth
As its Six Sentence Sunday, I thought I’d post another sample from my (soon to be Kindled) WIP ‘A Construct of Angels’.
This short extract describes Sara Finn’s experience as Michael (the Angel) decides to prove to her that he has a pure soul as opposed to the dark-souled, malevolent beings that she has encountered thus far.
Just prior to this extract, they touch the tips of their forefingers together, a gesture that instantly reminds Sara of the poster for ‘Bruce Almighty’.
I was suffused by a pure white Light that washed away all sight of the rain-lashed street outside. The Light was more than just brightness – it was physical; tangible, rippling the air around me like a warming breeze on a spring day.
My eyes watered as waves of joy suffused me and I felt my hair floating freely around me, unhindered by gravity. The Light flowed into my body to warm me from within, beginning in my bones, working outwards, infusing my muscles and my flesh with liquid bliss. Every corpuscle of my blood sang in harmony, raising a forest of goosebumps on my skin.
I stared along my arm, following it to my crooked finger that pressed gently against a figure that was glowing, not through some trick of transparent skin, but from every molecule of his body that was alive and buzzing with Light.
I hope that this helps to convey some of the wonder that she feels in his presence.
Write on, everyone!
